As ONDINE: she’s the lead Mermaid in the fairytale book. When the book is being read the mermaids are obsessed with men, however once the book is closed, they become staunch lesbian feminists.

GRACE/QUEEN MAUREEN
Non-white, early 40s, must have high contemporary belt/mix to E as well as a legit soprano/strong mix to G4.

As QUEEN MAUREEN: she is Prince Oliver’s fairytale mother and speaks with a British accent. While the book is being read she’s a grieving, chaste widow. When the book is closed she is a raunchy woman who enjoys the company of men.

Between the Lines, based on the bestselling book by Jodi Picoult & Samantha van Leer, is an enchanting new musical that asks what happens if the line between fiction and real life becomes blurred?  When the handsome hero of her favorite book literally starts speaking to her from the page, Delilah thinks she has found the perfect escape from a challenging junior year in high school… her overworked single Mom, her constant ability to get on the outs with the “in” crowd, and her need to find a friend who truly understands her.

As FRUMP: his is Prince Oliver’s best friend who used to be human, but was changed into a dog by the evil Rapskullio early in the fairytale book. Frump is hopelessly in love with Princess Seraphima. Think Danny Kaye in dog form

JULES/ONDINE – Non-white, 15-17 years old, pop alto with a high belt to Db and must also sing pop ala Janet Jackson/Destiny’s child (mix to E4).

As JULES: an outsider who identifies as female. She is the physical and emotional embodiment of “live the story you want if it’s not the story you’re in.” She’s confident, smart, knows who she is and doesn’t care what anyone else thinks about her.

As PRINCESS SERAPHIMA: while the book is being read Seraphima is the quintessential princess, beautiful, eloquent, and speaks in a posh British accent. As DUCHARME: the school counselor who finds himself attracted to Delilah’s mom, Grace. He’s a quirky, socially awkward, nebbish sort of fellow.
