The glitz and glamour, the song and dance… (jazz) hands down, the Tony Awards Ceremony is one of our favorite events of the year. While the big event is only days away, there’s still time to plan a red-carpet worthy viewing-party, and we’re here to help. Presenting our 2017 Ultimate Tony Party Guide! Break out the bar and the bingo sheets! It’s party time! (PS: Use #KCRepTonys when you post party photos and you might see yourself featured on the blog.)
These fun and fruity drinks should help you get in the Tonys spirit. Not interested in alcohol? Simply replace it with fruit juice for an award-worthy mocktail.
Red Carpet Champagne
- Gold sugar to rim the glasses
- 1 to 1 1/2 cup fresh strawberries
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 oz fresh-squeezed lemon juice
- 1 tsp sugar (optional, to taste)
- Sparkling wine or champagne
Using a little lemon juice, rim champagne flutes with gold sugar. Cap and clean the strawberries. Put all the strawberries in a blender. Add vanilla, lemon juice, and sugar (if any — strawberries are just coming into season here in California, but they weren’t as sweet as they will be in a month!), and puree. Pour into a champagne flute about a third of the way (I used a funnel to make it easier). Top with sparkling wine, and stir very gently to incorporate. This recipe makes about four drinks.
- 1 1/2 ounces lemon vodka
- 2 ounces fresh lemon juice
- Pinch sugar, or baking stevia, optional
- 2 ounces plain or lemon sparkling water, such as La Croix
- 1 lemon wedge
- Sugar for rimming
Rim the top of a martini glass with the lemon wedge. And dip into sugar to coat. Set aside. In a shaker, add the lemon vodka, lemon juice, sugar/stevia if using and a handful of ice. Shake for 15 seconds. Strain into martini glass, leaving the ice in the shaker. Top with sparkling water. Serve immediately.
“Sun and Moon” inspired by Miss Saigon
- 2 ounces Black Cherry Vanilla Vodka
- 1 ounce Campari
- ½ ounce sweet vermouth
- Maraschino cherry for garnish
In a cocktail shaker filled with ice combine the Cherry Vanilla Vodka, the Campari and the sweet vermouth. Stir until well chilled. Place a maraschino cherry into a chilled martini glass. Strain the cocktail into the martini glass and drink!
Pink Margarita inspired by War Paint
- 1 1/2 ounces tequila
- 1 ounce cointreau
- 1 ounce lime juice
- 1 dash grenadine
Fill a cocktail shaker with ice and pour in all ingredients. Shake to chill, and strain into salt-rimmed glass.
