Before The Show

I’m new to the performing arts: what should I expect?
Welcome! We’re so glad that you are here! KCRep strives to create an accessible and enjoyable theatre experience for all of our guests, and we can’t wait to welcome you into our home.
When you arrive at the theatre, there is plenty to do in the lobby: enjoy food and drink from our concession stand, chat with your fellow theatre lovers, or attend a pre-show conversation. Before the show begins, please note the signs located next to the theatre entrances: they will tell you how long the play is, whether or not there is an intermission, and any sensitivities (such as smoke effects or strobes) that you should be made aware of. Depending on the length of the performance, you may want to use the restroom before you take your seat. (And be aware that lines for the restroom can get long at intermission!)
The theatre itself will open approximately 30 minutes before curtain. Enter the theatre from the door specified on your ticket and, if you need assistance, look for one of our friendly ushers. They can help you find your seat and will give you a free program containing information about the show. Turn off your cell phone and settle into your chair. When the lights go down, the show is about to start! Lean in and enjoy!

How should I dress?
We don’t have a dress code at KCRep — come as you are! Many people wear what they would wear to the movies (shirt and shoes required.) We also recommend bringing a light sweater or jacket with you into the theatre in case you get cold.

How soon before a performance should I arrive?
We recommend that you arrive at the theatre 45 minutes to an hour before the curtain time listed on your tickets. This will give you plenty of time to find the theatre and enjoy our lobby amenities.

How will I know that the performance is about to start?
Look for the blinking lights! Five minutes before a performance is to start, or when intermission is about to end, the lights in our lobby will blink. This is your cue to return to your seat.

What should I do if I arrive late?
If you are late, please find a KCRep staff member in the lobby. You will be seated at the discretion of house management. To avoid disrupting other patrons, you may be seated in the back or delayed until intermission.

Do you have a concession stand?
Yes! Our concession stand opens one hour before each performance. We offer a full bar as well as light snacks such as cookies. Please note that drinks are allowed in the theatre, but food is not. We ask that you finish all snacks in the lobby.
