KCRep: debut. Christopher Burnett is an acclaimed alto saxophonist, educator, arts industry leader, and composer. His professional career began at 18, playing in military jazz bands after high school graduation in 1974. He spent 22 years in the U.S. Army, performing and touring extensively. After his military service, Burnett taught at the college level and co-founded the independent Artists Recording Collective (ARC) label. A prominent figure in the Kansas City jazz community, Burnett leads his own quartet and quintet. His discography includes albums like “Time Flies,” “Firebird,” and “The Standards, Vol. 1,” which received four-star reviews from All About Jazz. Burnett has performed with notable artists such as Bobby Watson and Will Matthews. He is also the founder of the Kansas City Area Youth Jazz program. Burnett is recognized for his lyrical sound and for integrating contemporary and traditional jazz elements in his music.
