Legacy Land, an honorable mention on the 2019 Kilroys List, is an unflinching dark comedic dive into the bizarre legacy that sexual abuse imprints upon the lives of sisters Barbara and Denise. Denise’s unexpected Thanksgiving homecoming upends Barbara and her young lover Marcus’s plans for a cozy weekend. When Denise’s domineering boyfriend Freddie reveals the true reason for the visit, a battle ensues unearthing years of resentment and repressed memories forcing the sisters to choose whether they will succumb to, or overcome their family legacy

With this comes the difficult task of announcing that our opening of Legacy Land by Stacey Rose has been cancelled as well as its scheduled run.
Images in Legacy Land were generously provided by Adreinne Waheed and the Waheed Photo Archive, a collection of the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Adreinne founded the archive in 2010 and it was acquired by the NAAMHC in 2015. These vernacular photographs serve as a collective visual history of African American life and remind us of the loved ones we hold so dear.
